Switching from Motasoft?

Motasoft GMS Alternative: Pricing and Features Comparison

Motasoft has been around a long time and their headline prices look low, so it is worth knowing what sits behind them. Their advertised rates depend on signing up to their own payment processing, exclude VAT, and their website states a twelve month contract paid by direct debit. Autopilot has no contract at all, and the price you see is the price you pay.

Thirty days on the full plan before you commit, an AI assistant built in from £99 a month, and nothing tying you in afterwards.

The detail

What actually decides it

What the advertised price depends on

Motasoft advertises VGM Essential at £65, Plus at £95 and Complete at £149, plus VAT. On the face of it that undercuts Autopilot at every tier, and it is worth being straightforward about that.

The condition is in the small print on their pricing page: the discounted rates shown apply to customers who sign up with MotasoftPay, their own payment processing. Your software price is therefore tied to which card processor you use.

Autopilot charges £99, £179 or £279 plus VAT with no conditions attached. You can take payments through Stripe, Dojo or Payment Assist, and the monthly price is the same whichever you choose.

Their two pages disagree about the contract

Their website states a 12-month contract paid monthly by direct debit. Their pricing page says there is no fixed-term contract.

We cannot tell you which applies, and it is worth asking them to confirm in writing before signing. Autopilot has no contract and no minimum term, so the question does not arise.

Where the integrations differ

Their pricing page lists GSF Car Parts and GroupTyre for ordering. There is no NAPA integration shown. Autopilot orders from GSF, NAPA, partslink24, Group Tyre, Oak Tyres and Castrol inside the job.

On accounts, read their wording carefully: they integrate directly with Xero and provide export files for Sage and QuickBooks, which you then import yourself. Autopilot syncs invoices straight into Xero, QuickBooks or Sage.

For technical data both systems deliver, though theirs arrives through Haynes on the £95 tier and up.

Where Motasoft is strong

No system is the right answer for every garage. These are the things Motasoft does well.

  • ✓Their headline prices are the lowest of any system we have compared, starting at £65 a month.
  • ✓No setup cost, which is unusual in this market and genuinely worth something.
  • ✓Unlimited users on every plan, so the bill does not rise as the team grows.
  • ✓The software grew out of the founders’ own garage in the early 2000s, and they have over 30 years in the motor trade behind it.

Scott Walsh co-owns MB Liverpool and is a partner in Autopilot. He has used most of the systems on the market, so he knows what you are living with and what you want instead. Nothing gets built here without going past him.

Every garage we have shown Autopilot to has told us the same thing: it is simpler and easier to use than what they had. Talk to Scott and judge it for yourself.
