An MOT centre has a particular shape of problem
MOT work brings volume, tight slots and a steady stream of advisories that turn into repair work if they are communicated well. A garage management system earns its place in an MOT centre by handling that flow without anyone retyping anything.
These are the things worth checking before you commit.
Digital vehicle health checks with photos and video
This is the first thing to look for. An advisory described over the phone is a cost to the customer. The same advisory as a photo of the actual pad, or a ten-second video of play in a joint, is evidence.
Garages that move to video health checks usually see authorisation rates rise, not because customers are persuaded but because they can finally see what they are being asked to pay for.
Quotes that follow straight on
A failed MOT should turn into a priced quote in a couple of clicks, sent to the customer while the car is still on the ramp. Any system that makes you rebuild the job from scratch is costing you work.
Invoicing and accounts integration
MOT volume means invoice volume. Invoices should come off the job automatically and land in your accounts package without re-keying. Check whether the integration is a genuine sync or an export file you import yourself, because providers describe both as integration.
Parts supplier integration
Ordering from inside the job keeps the part cost against the work it belongs to. Without it, margin on MOT repair work is guesswork.
Reminders that go out on their own
MOT due dates are the most predictable revenue a garage has, and the easiest to lose. Automated reminders by text and email are the difference between a customer returning and a customer going wherever came up first in a search.
Printed job cards for the workshop
Not everything is digital. Plenty of MOT centres still want a job card on the car. A system should print one cleanly rather than forcing a workaround.
How Autopilot helps
Autopilot covers all of this: customisable vehicle health checks with photo and video capture, quotes that follow straight from the check, invoicing that syncs into Xero, QuickBooks or Sage, parts ordering from GSF, NAPA and partslink24, automated MOT and service reminders, and printable job cards. Health checks are included from the £99 entry plan rather than held back for a higher tier. See the technician app for how it works on the floor.
