At scale, the pricing model is the decision
For a large workshop the feature lists converge and the pricing models diverge sharply. Before comparing anything else, work out what each garage management system costs you at your actual headcount rather than at the advertised entry price.
We are one of the providers. The reason we lead with pricing model rather than features is that it is where the difference runs into thousands a year, not tens.
Per-user pricing is the thing to model
Several systems charge by the seat. The advertised figure covers a small number of users, and every technician, receptionist and manager added increases the monthly bill.
At two people that is a rounding error. At ten it is the largest line in the comparison. One garage we spoke to was paying around £1,500 a month on a per-user system; the same workshop on a flat-price plan pays £279.
Before you look at anything else, ask each provider the same question: what does this cost at my headcount, in writing.

Pro includes the technician app, multi-user access, technician time tracking and efficiency reporting, online booking with deposits, and the full business reporting suite. For a large workshop the reporting matters as much as the diary: revenue, throughput, quote conversion and efficiency by technician, without exporting to a spreadsheet.
The flat price is the whole argument here. The gap against per-seat systems widens with every person you employ.
TechMan
Built for established high-volume workshops, and the depth shows. Their Pro plan at £415 on the minimum-term rate, or £529 rolling, adds technician efficiency tools, web booking, telephone integration and a car sales module.
Two things to price in: the upfront fee of up to £1,300, and per-technician or per-user charges on some plans. For a large team, ask specifically which of those applies to the plan you are quoted.
Garage Hive
A capable system with everything included and fair contract terms, used by multi-site groups.
Per-technician and per-user charging is the consideration, and it is felt hardest exactly at this size. If you are weighing them up, get a written quote at your full headcount including reception and management seats, not a per-seat rate.

No published pricing, so budgeting means entering a sales process. Worth knowing garages are one of seven sectors they serve, which is a consideration when you ask for a change and your request is competing with six other industries.

At scale the per-use charges are what to model: 8p a text message and 8p a VRM lookup. A large workshop sending reminders across a big customer base should work out that monthly figure before comparing headline prices. Add-ons for technical data and booking apply regardless of size.
What to ask every provider
- What is the total monthly cost at my headcount, including reception and management
- What happens to that figure when I hire two more technicians
- Is there an upfront or implementation fee, and what does it cover
- Which features are add-ons, and what do they cost at my usage
- Are texts and vehicle lookups included or billed per use
- Can I run real jobs through it before committing
